PRO TIP

What size ice machine do you need?

Opening a new restaurant? Finding and purchasing the right ice machine isn’t as simple as figuring out the square footage of your space. An ice machine that works for your business should be based on the pounds of ice you need in a day. Don’t buy the wrong ice machine!

Here are some guidelines to help you figure out how many pounds of ice you will need:

Restaurants

Restaurants use an average of 2 lbs of ice per customer, per day.

School & University Cafeterias

School and university cafeterias use an average of 1.5 lbs of ice per student, per day.

Hospital Cafeterias

Hospital cafeterias use an average of 1 lb of ice per person, per day and an average of 10 lbs for every bed.

Bars & Cocktail Loungers

Bars and cocktail lounges use about 3 lbs of ice per seat.

Hotels

Hotels use about 5 lbs of ice per room, per day.

When you open a restaurant, we know you have your hands full. The last thing you need is to be low on ice constantly. Your guests will get annoyed and your staff will find it frustrating.

At Budget Food Equipment, we want your new restaurant to have the best chance at success. That’s why we recommend you talk to us before you buy your ice machine. We’ll help you step through all the crucial things you need to think about and give you the best price and service in the industry.

New Restaurant Tip

Not sure if you should use a filter on your ice machine? The short answer is yes!

Filtering your ice water will give you three benefits:
1. Improve the quality and taste of your ice.
2. Save you energy because clear water helps your machine run more efficiently.
3. Protect your ice machine from scale build up and corrosion.
